Slow VPN Connections

I am using MS VPN client to connect to a Windows NT 4.5 Server but I have sloooow connections. I access the internet via a ADSL FastAccess modem that show a 1,400,000+ connection speed. Without the VPN client it is truly fast but as soon as I use the VPN client it slows down. A recent speed test showed only 14.3 kbps, and that was a good day! Other times it creeps along at 2400 to 9600 baud, even though the speed on the icon shows 1,400,000.

Any ideas on how to tweak my settings to speed things up?

it is really slow becasue you are accessing the internet remotely instead of using your own connection...if you have access to the server try using this as a reference

Thanks for the reference. I had finally figured out the problem after many unsuccessful tries. After unchecking the "Use default . . ." it worked normally.

Here you go. This should be straightforward enough.

  1. Bring up the properties window for your VPN connection.
  2. Click the Network tab.
  3. Select "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)"
  4. Click Properties.
  5. Click the Advanced button
  6. Uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network".

That should do it. If this box is checked, then all of your Internet activity passes through your VPN connection. Not what you'd normally want.

Good luck
