gotchas 陷阱

FreeBSD rulez!!! I have been using linux since kernel 1.xx, and so, I think I am very experienced with it. Having said such, my opinion -- today -- is that my time would have been spent much better had I been using FreeBSD. Linux is still extremely cool, in my opinion, but under the covers, it is complete chaos. There are too many cheifs, too many flavors, and a total lack of discipline (some of it falls on "my" shoulders, too). FreeBSD, on the other hand, is a stable experience without the constantly annoying suprises, gotchas, and "unbootable systems" that have finally exhausted my patience with linux. Yes, linux "does" have better hardware support from vendors, but in general, almost every device I've ever had is supported quite well on FreeBSD too. The places where linux hardware support seems to be better are sound and graphics cards. They work in FreeBSD, but, not as well. For that part, if you want/need the best experience out of sound and graphics, you should be using Mac or (ugggh) Windoze.
